Our Mission:

  • Fireside Christian Church is an intentional faith community that courageously seeks, questions, challenges, and ministers to each other and the world in authentic affirmation of our faith journeys.  We work to be inclusive of all people as we: embrace our humanity; celebrate diversity; promote peace and justice; create beloved community; receive God’s expansive love; care for the Earth; and act in hope.

Discussion:

  • Ann led our discussion on prayer using the children’s book, Am I Praying?, as a jumping off point.  We had a very thoughtful conversation and wrestled with some deep questions.

Moments for Eco-justice/Eco-practice:

  • Recycle On Colorado is a free recycling program that is slowly rolling out to communities across the state.  Debbie is hoping she can convince her neighbor to participate.
  • One Home/One Planet is offering a free environmental film series.  South Broadway Christian Church is considering how they will participate and has offered Fireside the opportunity to join them in sponsorship.
  • The free app, I-Naturalist, is being used widely to encourage citizen scientists around the world to document the living things they see in their everyday lives.  It has even led to discovering that an “extinct” species wasn’t extinct after all!
  • Phil participated in a prairie restoration project with the Plains Conversation Center in which he helped gather seeds and replanted them in prairie locations where restoration is needed.
  • Ann and Ron went to dinner at their contractor’s home.  The contractor had an amazing garden and used its fresh-grown produce to make the entire meal.  It was inspiring!

Joys and Concerns:

  • Debbie’s brother-in-law, Duane, passed away on August 13.  Debbie and family are traveling to Wichita for the service, which will be September 12.  Debbie will officiate the service.
  • Cheryl is officiating two memorial services, including Lynda Burd’s and a member of her VISTA friend, Pam’s, family.
  • Tracy’s husband, Mark, continues to do very well!
  • Cheryl is thankful that Betsy has been providing her apartment as a cooling station for Cheryl on these extremely hot days!
  • Michael begins his freshman year at college next week!  Ellen and Joel will be helping Michael get moved into his dorm at DePaul on Wednesday!
  • It was a great joy to be hosted by Ann and Ron!  What a beautiful job their contractor did with remodeling their home!
